Just saying…

I like how they say expressing an opinion never hurt anyone, but not three sentences before they mention the KKK, homophobes, and neo-nazis.
No their opinions couldn’t hurt a fly.

They can say what they like. When they break a law or hurt someone, then you can throw them in jail.

The thing is, hate speech is hate speech, because it does hurt people. 3 out of 4 of these examples are incredibly notorious for hate speech.
Saying an entire race is inferior and should be lynched, for example, does in fact cause harm.
The suicides of many LGBT* teens is an example of how “saying what they like” can be harmful.
Also, not only is it hurting people, hate speech is, in fact, outside the law (or at least in the US, I’m not sure about other countries, though I’m sure many have policies regarding it).

Saying an entire race should be lynched is incitement to violence. So when people say that, they’re breaking a law. Saying America should go back to the days of segregation is neither hate speech nor incitement to violence. Implying that there is a “Jewish conspiracy” is not hate speech. It’s just wacky and stupid. I cannot speak to the suicides of gay and LGBT teens, but my point is this… If you support freedom of speech, you support freedom of speech for everyone. Including, and especially people, and groups you don’t like.
